CHINESE AND NATURAL MEDICINE PRACTICE

For thousands of years the practice of Chinese Medicine was to maintain health and promote wellness.  Modern medicine has focused more on the illnesses and pathology of diseases.  The word "health" is derived from the root word "whole" and to look at the whole or a holistic approach is to use all available knowledge to treat discomfort, dis-ease, and support vitality, energy, and the ability to thrive.

"Maggie really did a good job at diagnosing my twitchy hands. It made my day go a lot smoother. And the acupuncture was very gentle."

My desire is to help people with their journey for health and wellness through Chinese Medicine using acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui Na (medical massage), breathing, lifestyle recommendations, and Qigong. I practice and teach Soaring Crane Qigong and in 2008 traveled to China with my teacher, Chen Hui Xiang and fellow Qigong practitioners to deepen my understanding of Qigong.   Soon after I made a life-changing decision to study Chinese Medicine at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, CA.

My passion for learning has made for an interesting journey so far.  I grew up in San Francisco and have been fortunate to travel abroad to over 60 countries thus far.  I am fascinated by all living things, and  studied for a Biology degree at San Francisco State University.  I worked in the emerging field of biotechnology at Genentech for several years, and my desire to travel led me to South America, Asia and 8 months across the continent of Africa on a overland truck.  After two years traveling,  I returned to a job in biotech; however, it was not for me.  I then applied to the Peace Corps Masters International Program.

I spent 2 years in Ghana as a Peace Corps Volunteer managing a tree nursery, building an elementary school, and doing research for a Masters International degree in Forestry from Michigan Technological University.   Upon returning to the US,  I moved to Utah for several years working in Forestry and with Utah State University as an Assistant Professor and Extension Agent coordinating the Master Gardener program, establishing a Jail Horticulture Program and farm, and teaching Into the Garden series of classes.   Utah is where I began practicing Qigong.

In 2015, I volunteered with Acupuncture Relief Project for 2 months in Nepal with other volunteer acupuncturists providing care at a community clinic in Bhimphedi, Nepal.  I returned in November 2016 and volunteered for another 2 months at the Bajra Bahari clinic I also volunteer at Charlotte Maxwell Integrative Clinic serving women with cancer.  I enjoy travel, films, hiking, and Taiko drumming.

 with ACUPUNCTURE RELIEF PROJECT

I am very impressed and wish to continue my support for this wonderful project.  Acupuncture Relief Project operates two community clinics six months of the year in Nepal.  Compassion Connects is the title of a video about this project but it also is a theme that guides this program since it started in 2008.  In collaboration with Good Health Nepal that provides excellent interpreters and support for the volunteer practitioners the team provides healthcare to thousands who otherwise may not have any healthcare.  I am grateful to have been a part of this program and will support this organization with an annual monetary pledge.
